Many companies world-wide now produce plastic from corn starch. Some of these are Sanyo, Sony, Mitsubishi, and Nature Works. These companies produce products such as food packaging, CDs and electronics products cases all made from plastic derived from corn starch.

'The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for International Food Manufacture and Packaging Science', developed biodegradable plastic, and has sold the formula to start up company Plantic Technologies (Australia), which specialises in turning plants into plastic.
